Named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux Native American tribes, South Dakota is a state in the US. It is situated in the Midwestern region of the country. It is divided by the Missouri River into two parts known as East River and West River. The capital of the state is Pierre. The largest city in the state is Sioux Falls. The state is largely dependent upon agriculture and tourism for its source of income. Wheat, hay, corn and soy-beans are the major crops in the state. There are low pine-covered mountains in the state. The major tourist attractions in the state are Wind Cave National Park, Mammoth Site, Home stake Gold mine and so on. The state is also known for having the richest fossil beds across the globe. It is found in Badlands National Park.
