Elche is a Spanish city in the province of Alicante and it is located in the Comarca of Baix Vinalopo. It is around 23 km inland from Alicante and is the capital of the EI Baix district. The official languages are Spanish and Valencian. Interestingly, a part of Elche is coastal while the main city is nearly 11km away from the coastline. A small creek called Vinalopo passes through the city dividing into two parts. It just 20 km away from the city of Alicante and 50 km from Murcia.There are approximately 200,000 palm trees planted in Elche by the town authority and they all are protected. Thus, this town has got an exotic look and feel today. The mainstay of the economy is shoe and the rubber industry followed by tourism. You will be surprised to know that there are nearly 1,000 shoe factories here and a booming rubber industry that employs nearly 20% of the Elche’sworkforce. The total area of this town is 326.10 sq. km.
