EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ALCOLEA
Beside the Alcolea river and over one of the Sierra de Gádor mountains lies the region of Alcolea, in the Alpujarras locale of Almería. Its name originates from the Arabic for 'small castle', which provides us a noteworthy clue into the roots of this town. After the development of the Pantano de Beninar (Benínar Reservoir), the districts of Darrical and Lucainena ended up plainly joined together. This made this place much more appealing for admirers of provincial tourism and for the individuals who prefer to see interesting historical, artistic and cultural features and buildings.Among the archaeological remains that can be found in Alcolea are the Arab fortifications. One is situated in a place known as El Castillejo and the other is called La Torrecille, in what was once the area of Darrical.
