Alentejo is a Portuguese district. It is an important part of Portugal due to its historical, geographical and cultural significance. It is located to the south-central and southern corner of the country. The basic meaning of Atlentejo is ‘beyond’ as per Portuguese language. It is particularly famous for its traditional polyphonic singing groups. Alentejo is divided into upper and lower zones. The district is spread over an area of 27,272sq.kms only.
