Calicut was the capital of Malabar in the north of Kerala when Zamorins ruled. It was the Spice Capital and extremely prosperous. This pulled in nonnatives who found the rulers cordial and tolerant. The Arabs were the first to arrive. They were trailed by Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch lastly the British. The contention between them brought about fights amid the medieval period.Today it emerges as a standout amongst the most went by visitor spots as a result of its depiction of lovely nature alongside extraordinary human creation.Recently in 2012, the place was tagged as "City of Sculptures" as various sculptures are located in the city.
