The municipality's economy is predominantly agricultural, with fields of cereal, chickpeas, beets, sunflowers, melons, garlic, and olive trees. Santaella's historical and cultural heritage consists of La Leona de Santaella, Posada de la Plaza Mayor, Ermita del Santo Cristo de la Vera Cruz, Casa de la Cultura, Castillo y Murallas, Santuario Nuestra Señora Virgen del Valle, and Iglesia de la Asunción. The surrounding nature allows for beautiful scenic walks around the Ruta de las Fuentes and Ruta Patrimonia.
